Holes
The book Holes, is a Newbery Award winner that is written by Louis Sachar. This book is about a young boy named Stanley Yelnats who is thrown into a juvenile detention camp called Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn't commit. This curse was placed onto him because his great great grandfather did not do a deed that he promised to a gypsy named Madame Zeroni. At this detention camp they were to dig holes. It looks like an odd task but the Warden of the camp was looking for something. Stanley, while there, connects with one of the boys, Zero, and goes on the hunt to find what the warden is for. It is money that a woman named, Kissin' Kate Barlow, hidden while she went on a killing spree because of unfortunate situations. We find out that Zero is the great great grandson to the gypsy Madame Zeroni. At the end they find a suitcase and Stanley's lawyer comes to tell that stanley is innocent and can leave. The curse is lifted and stanley can live his life without the curse on his shoulders. This is a great book for a book club. This book is for 10 and up and I agree. This would be an awesome book club book.
