Freedom Over Me is a book written by Ashley Bryan. Freedom Over Me is a John Newbery Medal winner, This book is a piece of historical fiction that describes the lives of elevens slaves all under the household of the Fairchilds. Mrs. Fairchilds, after her husband passed is to sell her estate and slaves so she does not have to live in fear. She has eleven slaves varying in age and worth. There is Peggy, John, Athelia, Betty, Qush, Jane, Stephen, Mulvina, Bacus, Charlotte, and Dora. All have dreams to live outside the world of slavery and have their own lives. Each slaves specializes in a specific trade so they are very special in their own way. At the end of the story, they are all sold to other places and different people.
