The Dog Ate My Homework

This anthology, The Dog Ate My Homework, is about school themed poems. Sara Holbrook wrote some pretty hilarious poems for children the age 9-12 years. One Poem, "The Search" is the search for "x" in math. She describes it has an itch and makes her go into math overload. This poem is in an "AB" pattern. Another poem, "My Desk" is about how messy and unorganized her desk is. You can find things from candy wrappers, to petrifying carrots, to leaking glue. She blames her inability to be wiser, smarter, and quicker on her messy desk. One last poem, "Bad Words" is a poem about a young man named Sammy knowing a lot of bad words. He uses them to fight. "...with words that sting but don't have much to say."
