Families Are Different
Families Are Different is a book written and illustrated by Nina Pellegrini. This book is about the different types of families in this world targeted for 5-8 year old students. It takes us into the world of Nico and Angelica. They are both of Korean descent and they were adopted into a Caucasian family. Nico's mother comforts her with the idea that families are glued with special glue called love. There are big families, small families, families without a dad, families with people who do not look alike but all have the same thing, love. At the end of the story, Nico knows that she us not strange but different; Being different is alright! I would use this book as a first week of school book. This would make people feel okay with their situations at home, so students will feel safe and supported at school. This would help a student emotionally if they are going through the same thought process as Nico.
