Memphis, Martin, And the Mountaintop
Memphis, Martin, And the Mountaintop is a piece of Historical Fiction written by Alice Faye Duncan and R. Gregory Christie. This book has been awarded with the 2019 Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor Book, A school library Journal best book of the year award, a Booklist Editors' Choice, A Kirkus Reviews Best Children's Book, Booklist Top 10 Diverse Books for Middle Grade or Older Readers, and Chicago Public Library Best of the Best Books Award. This book is for the age range of 9-12 year old children. This book book is about a nine year old girl named, Lorraine Jackson, who lived during the Memphis sanitation strike in 1968. This was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's last act of Justice before he died. Lorraine's father, was a sanitation worker that took part of the sanitation strike with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I would use this book as a resource for learning the sanitation strike. This would be a book we would read during Black History Month. This is a great picture book.
