Where the Wild Things Are

Where the Wild Things Are is a Caldecott Medal winner that is written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. This book is for the age 4 and up. I would not read this to my four year old though. This story is about Max, a mischievous boy, that was sent to his room for doing bad things without dinner! When he is in his room, he travels to a place where the wild things live. He met the wild things described to have terrible claws, eyes, and roars. He became their king and made mischief all night. He eventually grew lonely and wanted to feel loved again. He sailed back home and came back to his room with food waiting for him to eat, nice and warm. This book is a deep book. I would use this book for talk of symbolism and a deep thought conversation with my students.
