Spindletop

The book, Spindletop, written by Sibyl Hancock and illustrated by Virginia Scott Gholson is about the Spindletop well being drilled and finding oil in 1901. This book is for 1st and 2nd graders.  This story is about Jimmy and his father working everyday to see if they can discover oil. This was their jobs for months. On Jimmy's mother's birthday, they go out and tap into oil. After several problems like rocks flying, fires, and the explosion of oil. Jimmy, his father, and his coworker work together to plug the oil. At the end of the book, they get to walk away with oil flowing.
